A recent Eurobarometer survey conducted in September and October 2023 has revealed overwhelming support for the European Union’s humanitarian aid programs among citizens of all 27 Member States.
The survey found that 91% of respondents believe it is important for the EU to fund humanitarian aid activities, demonstrating a clear commitment to assisting those affected by crises around the world. Additionally, 87% of respondents support sustaining or increasing current levels of EU humanitarian aid funding, emphasising the need for continued support for these critical endeavours.
The survey also highlighted the perceived effectiveness of EU-coordinated humanitarian aid efforts. A significant majority of respondents, at 71%, expressed the view that humanitarian aid is more efficient when coordinated across the EU. Only 23% believe that it would be more efficient if each member state did the coordination. This finding underscores the value of a united EU approach in addressing global humanitarian challenges.
These results provide strong evidence of the public’s backing for the EU’s humanitarian initiatives. The EU’s commitment to providing assistance to those in need is widely recognized and appreciated, and the public clearly supports the continuation and expansion of these efforts.
